Daubert VCI, Inc. Accepts Export Achievement Award

U.S. and local government officials presented the U.S. Dept. of Commerce “Export Achievement Certificate” to Daubert VCI, Inc., at a ceremony Aug. 20 in Burr Ridge. BURR RIDGE, IL (August, 2002) – Daubert VCI, Inc., received the Department of Commerce “Export Achievement Certificate” award in a special ceremony held Tuesday, Aug. 20, in Burr Ridge. U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert made the presentation to M. Lawrence Garman, President & CEO of Daubert VCI, Inc., during a ceremony attended by state and local officials, members of the board of directors, and company employees.

The Export Achievement Certificate award was created by the U.S. Commercial Service, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, to recognize small and medium-sized enterprises that have successfully entered the international marketplace for the first time or that have successfully entered a new market. Daubert VCI, Inc., is only the fourth company in Illinois to win the award.

Daubert VCI is a leading U.S. manufacturer of volatile corrosion inhibitor (VCI) packaging used to prevent corrosion of metal parts while in storage and during transport. Its VCI papers, films and emitters are used in automotive, heavy equipment, electronics, aerospace and other precision metal parts industries.

Moderator for the breakfast ceremony was International Sales Manager Martin Simpson. Simpson is responsible for establishing international distribution. Since 1999, he has used the assistance of the U.S. Commercial Center to open markets in Brazil and India. The venture into India was particularly successful, with sales increasing about 500% from 2000 to 2001.

International Trade Specialist Bernadine Smith of the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Chicago helped Simpson find suitable selling partners overseas. She nominated the company for the national award, and also participated in the award ceremony.

Another special guest was Richard Paullin, chairman of the Illinois District Export Council, a group that helps firms navigate foreign markets.

“Daubert VCI is an example of the best of what we do,” Paullin stated. “It’s with the help of companies like Daubert that we are able to keep the trade deficit down.” He also commended the company management for its commitment to support export business.

In accepting the award, Garman noted that international business was the vision of founder George Daubert. “Mr. Daubert always had the outlook of being a world company,” Garman remarked. Today, Daubert VCI products are marketed through 26 overseas distributors servicing customers in more than 50 countries.

Peter Fischer, grandson of the company founder and a current member of the board of directors, was present at the award ceremony. Other guests included corporate secretary Rosemary Gullikson from Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal; Chris Newton and Brian Caldwell representing American National Bank in Chicago; and Kathy Lydon, chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Biggert.
